🧠 Why I Got Into 3D Printing

My journey into 3D printing started not in a design studio, but on-site at a luxury spa refurbishment in Edinburgh. The project featured curved tiled shower walls where the exposed Dornbracht VAIA valves had to sit perfectly flush — but no standard parts could achieve it.

Working alongside Martin Purdy – The Modest Workshop, I helped design a set of custom 3D-printed shims that followed the wall’s exact radius. Each piece was modelled for millimetre-accurate fit and printed in durable PETG, achieving a seamless finish that saved costly rework and kept the design intent intact.
